About the Opportunity
CleanCo is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Specialist to support our operational sites at Barron Gorge Hydro Power Station in Cairns and Kareeya Hydro Power Station in Tully. Candidates can be based in either Cairns or the Mission Beach/Tully area, noting the requirement for regular travel between the two sites.
Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, you will be responsible for providing support and advice to CleanCo’s sites, ensuring all sites adopt the health and safety policies, frameworks and systems to continuously improve and drive CleanCo’s performance.
You’ll be responsible for monitoring compliance, conducting investigations, coordinating audits, and driving continuous improvement in safety practices.
About you
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Experienced Health & Safety professional with a background in power generation and/or heavy industry.
- Strong relationship‑builder and communicator who understands that trust and connection are essential when working with tight‑knit, community‑focused site teams.
- Confident working autonomously across multiple operational sites, with the ability to identify what needs attention and act proactively.
- Recent/current hands‑on experience in operational H&S, including safe systems of work, incident investigations, and leading on‑the‑ground safety activities.
- Skilled in ICAM, 5 Why’s, root cause analysis, and applying HSE legislation and compliance frameworks.
- Comfortable supporting contractor management and working with evolving systems and processes.
- Holds a Cert IV or Diploma in WHS (or equivalent experience) and values contributing to Queensland’s clean energy future.
- Proven experience in the development of compliance, regulatory and health and safety management systems.
- AIHS certification, ICAM Lead Investigator Certification, and Health and Safety Auditing Certification will be highly regarded.
